I am sure I will get past the memes (even life story ones); but they are instantly addictive. I just squandered a whole hour on enjoyment when I should have been, oh I don't know, doing productive cr*p !

Oh, and yeah it's Sarah Connors for me as the ultimate action chick. Although Ripley snarling "Get away from her, you B*TCHH!" is a truly classic moment in movie history, I would have to add.

A fellow sci fi buff. Welcome aboard fren. The first Alien was my favorite the orig Star Wars everything the new Star Trek movies (prequels). Loved Mission to Mars because I felt the earth seeding theory was analogous to God’s creation. I liked the twists of The Minority Report. Then LOVED Mars Attacks. Best satiric portrayal of politicians I’ve ever seen. Then all these were unseated by the likes of Oblivion, The Fifth Element and Edge of tomorrow. Lol. I might have to go have a sci fi movie marathon now instead of getting to my ‘productive crap’. Happy Wednesday to ya.

Well, I wouldn’t qualify for a buff, really. Just the more familiar “serious” ones like ..yes!…Minority Report, Vanilla Sky (Cameron Crowe is so cool, even married to a musician isn’t he? Nancy Wilson?). Odd ones like Source Code and the other one directed by David Bowie’s son. Was it called “Moon”? There will be a few others, but can’t bring them to mind. None of the Marvel stuff or anything beyond 1990 or so. Maybe it’s an age thing! But those Terminator films and the first couple of Alien movies. Aliens is far and away the best for me. The franchise got a bit lost after that in my personal view. Unremittingly bleak, which doesn’t really do it for me.

I’m with you on the “unremittingly bleak”. I don’t do world end dystopia and most of today’s sci fi is just that.

Agreed. The makers have lost the ability, or even maybe never had the awareness of, the importance of the story/heroic journey/ adversity/tragedy and final redemption cycle - if I could put it in those loose terms. It speaks of a predominant worldview amongst people younger than, say fifty years or so, which has been programmed into them. There seems to be a total absence of optimism in the tone. And the same goes for TV drama and crime programmes. It simply drains the spirit from someone like me, as I am in my sixties now and remember a time when both films and TV drama had light and shade…..like real life, at least as I lived it. It’s quite worrying that people in the film and TV world seem to accept this in what seems a terminally fatalistic way. I hope that makes sense !

Hmm...wrote an original comment in agreement about "being in a bad mood for 40 years." Seems to have disappeared. Maybe I should lighten up my mood!

You are still brilliant, Cori! I love your pithy!

Thank you for commenting. It wasn't exactly as I'd hoped and it took a few weeks of collecting memes. LOL. It is MUCH harder to put your life in movie scenes than you think.

I love all the Steel Magnolias references! Btw Chuck Bartowski and Morgan Grimes at the Buy More are infinitely better than whoever that Head Manager is.

Lol. Fast Times at Ridgemont high was the coming of age flick of the times. That was a nerdy character from the movie. I’m not familiar with Chuck or Morgan. 🤭
