Thank you, Cori, this article is really informative. Thank you very much for your support of my own Stack and I added a blurb for you, too!

Was a pleasure to write. Once I solved the puzzle myself I figured others might need the info too.

Thank you Cori! I’ve never heard of “Blurbs” before! It's good to learn about these wonderful, underused Substack features. I often forget about recommendations! I took a quick visit and added you! 🤗✨💖

Great info. I need to do this. I’m so bad at the backstage stuff.

I do use blurbs but... the welcome page is quite confusing to people not familiar with Substack (makes them think subscribing is mandatory).

That «let me look first» link is way too tiny and nondescript, and the default text («No, thanks») is worse yet. Not sure what can be done about this.

Rat, you can change that default text on your welcome page. It's in you settings under "Welcome Page" at the bottom of that section.

Yes, perhaps that's one of the first things that everyone should change.

(added the missing closing quote to my original comment so it hopefully becomes a bit clearer :)

Yeah it's very off-putting to have a NO THANKS on the very first page new visitors see lol.

Yes! 💯 agree! What’s frustrating is Substack is difficult for the beginner to negotiate and they get disheartened and quit! 😕 I find that particularly true among the New Subscribers I’ve brought to Substack from places like Facebook et. al. Just the other day my friend Geno who owns the radio station I present my programette wrote to me the difficulty in negotiating Substack. He has an account, but he’s frustrated.

Also someone new might accidentally click “Subcribe to Recommended - then later discover they don’t like the stack and Unsubscribe. All of a sudden your Subscriberr numbers go backwards — decreasing instead of increasing ! Lol! 😂

Def needs some improvement. Good hear from you Charlotte sharing your wisdom

My biggest peeve when starting my Substack was just not being able to get here like you do Facebook as an example. Once I figured it out, it was easy. But it was frustrating for instance just figuring out how to sign in. I thought I had always go back to that email they sent me. 😂😂😂

Amen and on the flipside it’s kinda amazing that we can sign in, do some typing and BAM publish. It is so easy to move into this house with no drapes, carpeting, or heat!

Absolutely! 💞✨💞

Heck, I didn't even know I was NOT yet recommending you. *facepalm I have remedied that, with a blurb thrown into the mix ;-)

Great piece, Cori!

Thank you - for the restack and the recommendation!

Okay this helps and I honestly wish I had seen this sooner, as I'm a tech-dunce and this just clarified a whole ton of technical details I would have liked to know about sooner.

Cori, this is a cool new feature you've started here 😊 I love when people help each other!

On that note, I have always had those 3 blurbs enabled but I don't see them on my own Substack. I wonder if anyone else does?

SMH that’s SS

Expand full comment

I can only see them on my Welcome page. And, alas, sometimes they’re not there. SMH

And it's weird because I don't see them on your welcome page. But I have seen them on SOME welcome pages. So random.

I just restacked my post with a note. Might be the app. Don’t see mine on there but I do online. Of course RANDOMLY I can’t add a pic of that to this comment!
