A lot of “profess” has set us back

oh man. this post makes me nostalgic for a time I either wasn't alive in, or was very young in (those pizza hut cups and the super mario I well remember) - millennial born in 1989 here. But wow. these images instill a yearning - a look into the "simpler times, when things were real".

What happened? Only change to plunge us into this dystopia was the introduction of technology/internet/social media. Holy shit why did we allow these things into our lives?!

bring back THIS! And thank you for sharing, and for the reminder (to continue with plans of getting off the grid and being outside WAY more)

IKR? More and more I want that simplicity. Thank you for reading and commenting and THANK YOU for recommending Bren’s Buzz!

Wow yeah!!! Some of those are USA only, but most of them are 100% perfect for my childhood in Australia. When playground equipment became "safe" the world became boring.

And dumb.

Sigh.

Cori Bren's avatar

Totally agree with that ‘safe’ but dumb! No oppty for coping skills

David Kirkby's avatar

Exactly!! I’m all in favour of sensible health and safety, but the world is fundamentally not a “safe” place. A certain amount of risk is inevitable. trying to remove ALL risk is futile, and beyond a certain point it also makes life boring…. :)

Ahhhh, yes those were the days my friend...we thought they'd never end....Loved them and this was a great stack. Thank you.

Thank you for reading and commenting. The two meme posts I published were the most popular of all mine by far. Humans are starved for humor and hope and comfort. I plan to provide more in the near future.

These are great 😂. I do remember the red cups, teeter totters, and flintstones vitamins. And good swings. The tall kind that made your stomach drop. I miss the swings!

Haha! The reason that couch was so popular is that it was awesome at camoflauging cigarette burns, and it matched the nicotine stains on the walls and ceilings.

Cori Bren's avatar

lol. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE had the fab brown couch in the 70’s. My husband and I had his parent’s fab brown set from 1989 to 1990. LOL.

Cori Bren's avatar

Can’t tell you how happy I am that people can still appreciate humor. Thank you.

Wonderful. Christopher Hitchens said, about this generation of pussies: "Ten-thousand dollars worth of equipment for a ten-cent ride."

Cori Bren's avatar

Haven’t heard that one but I know some of the hippies wrecked some shit like some rebels from every generation do.

The Chaos Trials's avatar

I think I hate hippies more than I hate myself.

Cori Bren's avatar

Wow! See that’s something to work with…

A sample from when I grew up. Thank you!

Popular decade. Must be a lot of us on SS. Thank you for reading and joining the conversation.

Thank you Annette. I’m glad you liked them.

Those are GREAT! LMAO. Stealing the best, so you may be seeing them in your near future...

You forgot the "monkey bars". Ours were steel pipe held together with clamps. We also had a pole with chains on it with handles. You just ran in a circle and hoped the piece at the top would keep going around the pole and not lock up. Oh, yea recess was a time you would go outside to play then head to the nurse's office to fix you skinned elbows, arms, legs and also foreheads.

Cori Bren's avatar

Exactly and no mulch or rubber tire padding in site! Thank you for jumping into the conversation.

I still have those Empire Strikes Back glasses in my cabinet. Use ‘em every day!

A whole list of “wows” and “yeah I remember thats” or “how do the little bastards survive today - we did this and turned out fine” moments. Blockbuster, hot cars with 4-30 air conditioning (4 windows open going 30 mph for those who don’t know), the clothes, crazy music, family trips, the whole shebang.

Yep, life was pretty damn good then ! What the hell happened ???

Cori Bren's avatar

We sure lost site of the simplicity and the fun

Kim Smyth's avatar

Omg, these are awesome! I shared with all my besties!! My fave is the red cups at Pizza Hut old!!

Cori Bren's avatar

Thank you Kim. That one got to me too.

I think Abby‘s pizza in Oregon had them too when I was kid. I think at the time they were kind of high-tech. I think they were popular with restaurants because they were durable plastic but felt more like a glass. Plastics were really hitting their stride back then. Remember Tupperware?

Cori Bren's avatar

They were def a popular item. Tupperware is still around. I have my mother in laws pie keeper circa older than 50. Lol

Must be. Thanks for joining the conversation.
