oh man. this post makes me nostalgic for a time I either wasn't alive in, or was very young in (those pizza hut cups and the super mario I well remember) - millennial born in 1989 here. But wow. these images instill a yearning - a look into the "simpler times, when things were real".

What happened? Only change to plunge us into this dystopia was the introduction of technology/internet/social media. Holy shit why did we allow these things into our lives?!

bring back THIS! And thank you for sharing, and for the reminder (to continue with plans of getting off the grid and being outside WAY more)

Wow yeah!!! Some of those are USA only, but most of them are 100% perfect for my childhood in Australia. When playground equipment became "safe" the world became boring.

And dumb.

Sigh.

Totally agree with that ‘safe’ but dumb! No oppty for coping skills

Exactly!! I’m all in favour of sensible health and safety, but the world is fundamentally not a “safe” place. A certain amount of risk is inevitable. trying to remove ALL risk is futile, and beyond a certain point it also makes life boring…. :)

Thank you for reading and commenting. The two meme posts I published were the most popular of all mine by far. Humans are starved for humor and hope and comfort. I plan to provide more in the near future.

These are great 😂. I do remember the red cups, teeter totters, and flintstones vitamins. And good swings. The tall kind that made your stomach drop. I miss the swings!

Haha! The reason that couch was so popular is that it was awesome at camoflauging cigarette burns, and it matched the nicotine stains on the walls and ceilings.

lol. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE had the fab brown couch in the 70’s. My husband and I had his parent’s fab brown set from 1989 to 1990. LOL.

Wonderful. Christopher Hitchens said, about this generation of pussies: "Ten-thousand dollars worth of equipment for a ten-cent ride."

Haven’t heard that one but I know some of the hippies wrecked some shit like some rebels from every generation do.

You forgot the "monkey bars". Ours were steel pipe held together with clamps. We also had a pole with chains on it with handles. You just ran in a circle and hoped the piece at the top would keep going around the pole and not lock up. Oh, yea recess was a time you would go outside to play then head to the nurse's office to fix you skinned elbows, arms, legs and also foreheads.

A whole list of “wows” and “yeah I remember thats” or “how do the little bastards survive today - we did this and turned out fine” moments. Blockbuster, hot cars with 4-30 air conditioning (4 windows open going 30 mph for those who don’t know), the clothes, crazy music, family trips, the whole shebang.

Yep, life was pretty damn good then ! What the hell happened ???

I think Abby‘s pizza in Oregon had them too when I was kid. I think at the time they were kind of high-tech. I think they were popular with restaurants because they were durable plastic but felt more like a glass. Plastics were really hitting their stride back then. Remember Tupperware?

Cori Bren's avatar
