I would gobble up a series about you designing rooms around pieces of art. That checked so many boxes for me 😍

Thank you Jennie. Many readers are fascinated by creative processes, hence my sharing mine occasionally. I recently purchased an original painting by Jenn @betweenthepines, who writes on Substack. I plan to redesign my home office/creative space around this painting. She wrote about the history of the piece of in one of her posts and I was enthralled by it. I had an opportunity to purchase it, so I did. I plan to write a series about the entire process when my semi-retirement begins effective March 31. I will send you a pic of the painting and a link to her post in DM. She is worth looking at, her writing is excellent.

I just got the chills reading this. I can't WAIT to read about that process. I majored in costume design in college and remember loving the process of finding swatches and playing with textures and colors, and this just takes me back to everything I loved about that season of my life. Heading to the DMs now :)

Whoa! Holy synchronicities. I just saw this post for the first time, I had no idea you had referenced the post I wrote on Sylvia Plath. First off, thank you, that's an honor.

Second off, I found this post because Stone Bryson re-stacked a post of yours from a few days ago, and ironically mentioning his notifications were acting funky and he was just seeing it.

I clicked on that, read it, related, and this post was linked at the bottom. I had never seen this until now, so yes, notification glitches.

ALSO -

This is so just... i dont know the word. reassuring? relatable? both? in both this article and the one you posted on 12/3, you spoke of these ideas striking you, keeping you up at night, etc. - I have noticed an increase in this activity, the downloads / ideas / surges coming at untimely or even obnoxious hours.

Something is definitely trying to come through, and i am glad to have seen this, albeit late on both.

Salute to you and your creativity, it takes so much bravery to ALLOW ourselves to be free enough to channel this energy. Much love.

These notifications not sure what’s going on but we’ve gotta believe we see these at the right time, or else lose our minds with frustration. Case in point that series seems to be having a resurgence, which is reassuring. Probably means my community is broadening. Thank you for your kind words. I admire you and your work. 🙏✌️

Wow, this is a magnificent write up on your creative process and I relate to so much of it. Especially the urge to scream at everyone to leave me alone so I can create. The struggle is real sometimes. I am loving the room you created, too. I think inside your head must be a wonderland of creativity and joy; I am in awe.

It’s a wonderland, not always joyful but mostly wondrous. I’m glad you liked this. I had a long stretch on SubStack where I would see things or read a phrase and just have to stop everything and write. Lol

I do feel like creativity cycles; I go through almost unbearable periods where I can hardly function because the creativity is at such a frenzied high and I must make things. 🤣.

Lol that’s the stuff…..

I learned so much from your post! Thank you for sharing.

I wasn't familiar with the concept of "Tetrachromacy" and was super interested to learn about this and read your thoughts on it.

I'm like you in that I'm able to combine colors in non-typical ways, but (speaking for my case only), I'm not sure it follows that I'm really a tetrachromat. I learned to do this because my first job in the textile industry, I spent most of my time re-coloring prints for the company's least important, least lucrative clients -- and somehow they all had bizarre, unworkable color palettes.

So I'm not sure I have a natural talent for it -- just a lot of practice at it.

At the time, I was losing my mind with frustration over that situation. But in hindsight, I think that was one of the most valuable experiences in my career so far.

So my new mission in life at that time became making unworkable color palettes look stunning.

And after I figured out a magic formula for doing that, I found it fun!

So I still do it now, sometimes, just to keep things interesting. Because, why not?

And, yeah, it's really not so easy to do unless you're using a yarn that has an extensive color palette, or unless you learn to dye your own yarn. Most yarns only come in commercially viable colors. There's no throwing in pops of acid chartreuse unless you dye those colors yourself.

My favorite yarns for colorwork are Cascade 220, Wool of the Andes and Palette. If you know of any natural fiber yarns that are better than those for color selection, please share!

Have you learned how to dye? That's a whole other can of worms! If you have, I bet you're amazing at it -- and if you haven't, I bet you'd enjoy the outcomes, if not the processes.

Thanks so much for sharing your favorite yarns! I’ve not done any dying but def sounds interesting.

Oh my goodness! First off I LOVE the room design. I am so happy you like and were inspired to create by my art. That brings me pure joy. I also know exactly what you mean by being “struck” with an idea and the need (not a desire or a want, but an actual NEED) to see it through. And the tactile…in a yarn shop I just go around soaking in the colors and touching everything. Wonderful post and thank you for flagging it to Adam. I don’t get all my notifications for some reason (probably user error). 🤗 🥰 🧡 🙏

Cori: "I plan to write a short design-along series about my most recent brainstorm, a king-sized ‘art piece’ blanket from a sunset scene, about which I dreamt recently. I’ll keep each post short for easy consumption. Like the amazing work of Michael Newberry," Thank you so much, it sounds like a plan. : )
