I haven’t seen the film. But what I observed as a kid growing is my father, who had never been in the military was a more empathetic Dad then my friend’s fathers who were military men. I’m just talking about my small focused experience. Interesting subject Cori, and well written article!
As an adult I have not compared fathers with military careers to non-military. But that’s an interesting observation. I will be writing about my brother at some point who was career military.
Cori, I ended up going with no both times. And, I need to watch... Again. My father was in the army so I get some of this... but half his time he was a reporter for the Stars and Stripes. STILL, he didn't know how to deal with a sensitive kid like me. The whole male machismo, suck it up, fight it out... I got in the 80s from family, school and church, so my sympathies are low here. But I understand it having a sensitive kid of my own. Yeah, I have to watch again. There are many layers to this movie. -Adam
Thanks for writing! I have to say I'm really back and forth on your quiz though. Maybe more a Yes/No for me... multi-layered character who couldn't deal with a kid like him.
I considered a third answer undecided. However I ultimately felt it was important for people to commit. But perversely I’m glad we can’t necessarily because life’s not that simple is it?
That makes sense. Going full binary to see our true selves reflected in the answer. I suppose this would show my disdain for authority figures such as the father. Even though I do understand to a degree how any of us could become the father given the circumstances and lack of knowledge/empathy.
on a side note, I was just talking to my son who said he never has seen this (he's seventeen). We're going to watch it this weekend, for me the third time I think.
PS: Have you seen the movie, The Killer with Michael Fassbender on Netflix? I saw this recently and comes at the morality of a supposed feelingless hitman. Lots of good insightful voiceover.
Thank you for your feedback. It’s the most interaction I had on The Accountant series.

Thank you for sharing! I am fascinated by the varied responses to film moments. I am so happy you chose to participate in this.
And it's still on Netflix!
